  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • ½ onion chopped
  • ½ cup celery chopped
  • 1 handful green beans chopped
  • 1 small Bok choy chopped
  • 1/2 cup broccoli chopped
  • ½ tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds whole
  • 1 tsp ginger finely grated or minced
  • 200 g chicken peices steamed


  • Wash rice in a strainer to remove dry starch.
  • Boil water and add the brown rice until it is cooked through, set to aside. Bring the stock to a boil, reduce heat and add all ingredients, except the chicken and rice.
  • Simmer for approximately 20 minutes. Add the chicken and rice to the stock mixture and heat through. It can be thickened if desired with corn flour.


DYI Chinese 5-Spice:
Grind in a mill or use a mortar and pestle to crush the following:
  • ½ cinnamon quill
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 3 star anise
  • 1tsp whole fennel seeds
  • 2tsp Szechuan peppercorns
